Hypervisor

A hypervisor (virtual machine monitor) is the software that creates and manages virtual machines. Type-1 hypervisors run directly on hardware (VMware ESXi, Proxmox, KVM); type-2 hypervisors run on a host OS (VirtualBox, VMware Workstation).
